The Laugh Factory

In 1979, after a dispute over club owners refusing to pay comedians for their performances, teenage comedian Jamie Masada recognized the need for a new venue for comedians to perform and receive payment and opened up the Laugh Factory, making it the first comedy club to pay its performers. In a building formerly owned by Groucho Marx, Mr. Masada opened the Laugh Factory on the iconic world famous Sunset Strip in Hollywood. Richard Pryor, Paul Mooney, Tom Dreesen, and George Miller were the first comedians to grace the now legendary Laugh Factory stage. From that point on, the Laugh Factory has grown to be one of the most renowned comedy clubs in the world, cited in USA Today as the "#1 comedy club in the country." Mr. Masada still attends Tuesday night Open Mic to audition amateur comics from all over the country for a chance to perform on the Laugh Factory stage.

Upstairs the VIP lounge opens up to a 100-seat balcony overlooking the historic stage for intimate cocktail parties and special events. The club’s full kitchen serves Chicago-style sausages, pizzas, hot dogs and desserts from Chicago’s legendary restaurants.

The $10 million, 650-seat, 12,500-square-foot venue is the largest comedy club in the world. Holding its grand opening in 2008, the Long Beach club is home to the official Laugh Factory Stand-Up Comedy Hall of Fame and Museum, which holds over 500 pieces of comedy memorabilia from comedians like Rodney Dangerfield and Groucho Marx and wax figures of comedians like Whoopi Goldberg, Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor.
